The Kentucky softball team will take a break from Southeastern Conference action this week, as they travel to nearby Richmond, Ky., Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.
The Cats (16-18-1) dropped two of three to Mississippi State last weekend at the UK Softball Complex. Amber Janneck led UK to the lone victory against the Bulldogs with her second walk-off home run of the year in game two of the series. Brooke Marnitz continued her hot-hitting of late with a two-run blast in the series finale.
EKU (20-8) swept Eastern Illinois over the weekend, as two players were awarded Ohio Valley Conference Player and Co-Pitcher of the Week for their performances. Diana Barreras earned her first honor after batting .529 for the week in games vs. Dayton and EIU. Kindal Kincaid was awarded the honor after going 3-0 on the mound in the same time span.
Action will begin at Hood Field at 3 p.m.
