Mabry Signs With Kentucky: Mikhail Mabry, an all-state linebacker from Mililani, Hawaii, has signed to play football at Kentucky, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.

Mabry was described as a “6-foot-2, 225-pound mentally focused tank”by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and was a first-team all-state pick as a senior at Mililani HS. He is the 28th signee of Kentucky’s 2004 recruiting class.

“Mikhail brings impressive speed and athletic ability to our linebacker positions,” Brooks said. “He’s also an outstanding student. We’re very excited to get him.

Mikhail Mabry, Linebacker, 6-2, 230, Fr-HS, Mililani, Haw. (Mililani) – First-team all-state as a senior as chosen by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin & Described as a 6-foot-2, 225-pound mentally focused tankby the Star-Bulletin & Three-year letterman and two-year starter at Mililani (Haw.) HS & Played defensive end his sophomore season, then moved to linebacker for his final two years & Helped lead his team to a 9-3 record and state playoff berth as a senior & Made 88 tackles, including eight quarterback sacks, during his senior year and earned Western Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors by the Honolulu Advertiser & Also named the player of the week by the Advertiser four times during his senior season & Played for the winning team in the Goodwill Classic All-Star Game in December after his senior year & Honorable-mention all-conference as a junior & Coached by James Millwood & Two-year letterman in basketball & Helped his team place fourth in the state tournament in his senior season & Honor-roll student & Participated in the Leo Club, a community service organization & Member of a military family, he was born in Texas and also lived in Germany, California, Georgia, and Mississippi before moving to Hawaii & Most of his relatives live in the South.

Holts Dismissed From Team: Linebacker Deion Holts has been dismissed from the Kentucky football team for violation of team rules, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.

Holts, a sophomore from Bowling Green, Ky., played in 11 games during the 2003 season and started seven times at outside linebacker. He totaled 52 tackles, including 8.5 tackles for loss, and tied for the team lead in quarterback sacks with 4.5.

As a freshman in 2002, he made 30 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss, and was selected to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team as chosen by SEC coaches.

Brooks Call-In Show to be Held April 20: Coach Rich Brooks will have his spring practice radio call-in show on Tues. Apr. 20 from 7-9 p.m. at Damon’s Restaurant in Lexington. The show is produced by Host Communications and UK play-by-play announcer Tom Leach will serve as host. Brooks will give his observations on the team’s progress during the spring as the Wildcats prepare for the Blue/White Game.
