BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? Junior John Holmes was named Southeastern Conference Men?s Golfer of the Week (March 7-13) after picking up his first individual victory of the season at the Conrad Rehling Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Holmes fired a season-low 209 (69-69-71) in the tournament to claim the third individual title of his career.

?This is a nice honor for John,? Coach Brian Craig said. ?It is a testament to his commitment and hard work over the past three years at UK. He is well-deserving and I?m glad to see him get it.?

The All-American golfer also recorded a third-place finish at the Hyatt/Dorado Beach Intercollegiate in San Juan, Puerto Rico, earlier in the week. Holmes shot a three-day 212 (72-71-69).

The Campbellsville, Ky., native has finished in the top-five in five of Kentucky?s eight tournaments this year. Holmes leads Kentucky with a 71.14 stroke average and he is ranked seventh in the NCAA among Division I men?s golfers according to GolfWeek.com.

Kentucky is ranked 19th in the nation as a team in the latest Golfstat rankings. The Wildcats will play host to the 18th Johnny Owens Invitational, April 2-3, at the University Club of Kentucky.
