Amber Janneck accounted for both of Kentucky?s runs and hits in a 3-2 loss to No. 13 Tennessee Tuesday night at the UK Softball Complex. UT?s Monica Abbott and UK?s Amy Kendall were impressive on the mound, as the two combined to give up only five runs and seven hits in the contest.

UT got on board first, as Katherine Card reached on a fielder?s choice and scored one play later on an RBI double from Angela Brewer. The Lady Vols padded their lead when Brittany Bessho singled to right, bringing in Brewer for the two-run advantage.

Janneck got the Cats on the board in the fourth, as she recorded her first hit with a single to right field. The freshman reached second on a wild pitch and advanced to third with a stolen base before she scored on a fielder?s choice courtesy of Kendall to bring the Cats within one, 2-1. UT added an insurance run the top of the sixth, and Janneck belted her third home run of the year in the bottom half of the frame to leave Kentucky with the one-run loss. Janneck finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and an RBI.

?Amber is a kid who has very good hand-eye coordination,? head coach Beth Pruitt said. ?She just didn?t let a little bit of frustration get to her. She had a very good day at the plate.?

Monica Abbott improved to 18-2 with the complete-game win. The freshman ace gave up only two hits and two runs while striking out 12. Kendall was also impressive in the loss, as she went the distance while allowing five hits and three runs.

?We had a good day on defense, but we have got to produce on the offensive side to stay in games,? Pruitt said. ?You have to credit UT ? they have a very good pitcher in Abbott.?

The Cats and Vols will wrap up the three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader at the UK Softball Complex starting at 3 p.m. The teams were slated to play two today, but the second game was moved to Wednesday due to the cold weather. Live stats will be available for both games at www.ukathletics.com.
