The Kentucky softball team will open their Southeastern Conference home slate with a three-game series against the 13th-ranked Lady Volunteers of Tennessee March 9-10 at the UK Softball Complex. The Cats are 6-14 against UT in the all-time series, including a 4-4 mark when playing in Lexington.
UK (12-5-1, 1-2 SEC) is coming off an upset win over No. 21 Florida in Gainesville. The Cats dropped two to UF in the weekend series before battling back to shut out the Gators 4-0 on Sunday. Amber Janneck, Amy Kendall and Brooke Marnitz all registered two hits apiece in the victory. Kendall leads the Cats with a .425 batting average and a team-high nine RBIs.
UT (19-5, 1-1) split two games with LSU last weekend. The Lady Vols pounded out 14 hits in the two-game span and held the Lady Tigers to just two runs. UT is led on the mound by freshman sensation Monica Abbott, who is 17-2 this season for UT. Abbott has a .033 ERA and leads the league in strikeouts (226), appearances (19), innings pitched (116.0) and wins.
The series begins on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and wrapts up with a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3 and 5 p.m.
