The University of Kentucky women?s basketball team (11-16, 3-11) received the No. 11 seed and will face No. 6 seed and 24th-ranked Vanderbilt (20-7, 8-6 SEC) in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Thursday, March 4 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Gaylord Entertainment Center. Game time is slated for 8:30 p.m. CT/9:30 p.m. ET and will be televised live on Fox Sports Net South (SEC-TV).
Kentucky’s only meeting of the regular season against the Commodores proved to be a close one despite the Cats? early foul trouble. In the conference opener for both teams on Jan 8, then-ranked No. 22 Vanderbilt hit 25-of-27 free throws, compared to UK?s 11-of-12, to defeat the Cats in Nashville, 65-57. UK is 12-20 all-time vs. Vanderbilt, 1-2 in the SEC Tournament. UK?s last meeting vs. the Commodores in the SEC Tournament was 10 years ago, an 83-80 loss in 1994.
The winner will meet No. 3 seed Auburn on Friday, March 5 in the second round at 8:30 p.m. CT/9:30 p.m. ET.
