Kentucky and Auburn battle on the hardwood after both earning double-digit SEC wins Wednesday. The Wildcats, who topped Arkansas by 17 in Rupp Arena, visit Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum to face an Auburn team which earned an impressive 12-point road win at No. 24 LSU Wednesday.
The Cats led by as many as 22 points against Arkansas, its largest lead over a league foe this year, while shooting 57 percent in the win. Erik Daniels led all scorers with 21 points on 10-for-13 shooting. Cliff Hawkins had a career night, matching his personal best with 11 assists while committing no turnovers.
Guard Gerald Fitch returned to the lineup in a reserve role after missing three games with a sprained right index finger. Fitch gave the Cats 22 minutes off the bench, scoring eight points and grabbing two assists and two steals.
Kentucky has won 28 of its last 32 games away from Rupp Arena, including a 9-2 mark this season.
The Auburn Tigers
Auburn?s win at LSU improved the Tigers to 13-9 on the season, 4-7 in conference play. It was Auburn?s largest margin of victory in Baton Rouge since 1976.
Ian Young came off the bench for the Tigers to tally a career-high 21 points at LSU, while forward Marco Killingsworth added 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
Killingsworth leads the squad in scoring, averaging 14.3 ppg, while his 62.3% field-goal performance leads the league. Brandon Robinson has started 18-of-22 games this season but found himself in a rare reserve role against LSU. Robinson is second on the team in scoring with 10.7 ppg. Kyle Davis leads the SEC in blocks with 2.9 per game.
Cliff Ellis is in his 10th season with the Tigers and holds a 185-120 record at AU. Overall, he?s 611-344 (.640) in his 32nd season as a head coach.
Series History
This marks the 95th meeting between the two teams. UK has won 18 of the last 19 games, including a regular-season win in Rupp Arena last year and a victory over the Tigers in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament. AU?s last win in the series came Jan. 11, 2000, 66-63, in Auburn.
Kentucky owns a 23-13 series advantage in Auburn and has won six of its last seven games on the Plains, dating back to the 1991 season.
Auburn?s Cliff Ellis is 1-12 all-time against the Wildcats with his win coming in 2000. Tubby Smith is 8-2 against the Tigers, including a 6-1 mark while at UK.
Wildcat-Tiger Connections
Kentucky senior Antwain Barbour and AU junior Quinnel Brown were teammates at Wabash Valley Junior College in Mount Carmel, Ill., during the 2001-02 season. The two were part of a Wabash team which finished fourth in the National Junior College Tournament that season.
UK athletic trainer David Kindy served on Coach Ellis? staff at Auburn for two years before joining the Wildcats? staff in August 1998.
UK Assistant Athletics Director Scott Stricklin worked in the Auburn Media Relations office from 1993-98.
