After a much needed bye week the Kentucky women?s basketball team are back in action when they play host to Mississippi State on Sunday, Feb. 15, looking break the all-time attendance record and avenge an 80-67 loss to the Bulldogs earlier this year. It?s Alumni Day at Memorial Coliseum and several former Wildcats will be honored during halftime. Game time is set for 2 p.m. ET. Tickets are available for $5 for adults and only $2 for senior citizens and children ages 18 and under. UK students, faculty and staff are admitted free with valid identification.
Kentucky has totaled 58,688 fans this season at Memorial Coliseum with three home games still remaining. UK needs only 3,287 fans to move up to No. 1 in total attendance to break the highest total of 61,975 set in the 1982-83 season.
?The fan support has just been amazing,? UK Coach Mickie DeMoss said. ?I told the team the other day that although the wins may not show it, this team has improved in many areas and the community has supported them because the play hard every night and they play hard until the end.?
The Wildcats (9-13, 1-8 SEC) lead the all-time series with MSU 14-12 and own a 7-4 advantage when the game is played in Lexington.
The Bulldogs (10-12, 4-5 SEC) have won four of their last six games since defeating UK on Jan. 22. Their last win came on Thursday over No. 20 Florida, 88-76. Former Kentucky coach Sharon Fanning is in her ninth season at MSU and her 28th year overall as a head coach. She has compiled a 149-110 record at State and a 472-336 overall record and has led MSU to six consecutive postseason appearances, four NCAA and two WNIT. She guided the Lady Bulldogs to their best regular season record in school history last season with a 22-6 overall mark.
Junior guard Tan White, who was named first team All-SEC by The Associated Press last season, is leading two players in double-figure scoring. She is averaging an impressive 20.8 points a game while junior Tiania Burns follows with 16.3 ppg.
Sharpshooter Sara Potts has charted 172 three-pointers in her career and needs only five more to become UK?s all-time leading three-point shooter. Stacey Reed (1991-95) holds the record at 176. Potts is UK?s leading scorer with 16.5 ppg, including 18.7 ppg in conference play.
