The UK women?s distance medley team of Brooke Patterson, Jackie Gordon, Beth Heimann and Caity Phillips cruised to an easy victory on the first day of the McCravy Invitational Friday at Nutter Field House in Lexington. Their time of 11:20.05 earns them an NCAA provisional bid and also breaks the Kentucky school record set last year.
The men also fared well in the same event, as the Kentucky Blue and White teams placed second and third, respectively. Winning the men?s side was the Kentucky Milers Club, made up of runners who have exhausted their eligibility in indoor track at UK.
In the women?s high jump, sophomore Rachel Kohler and senior Kristen Mowrey each leaped 5?6?, earning them first and third place. Junior Sarah Funken placed 12th with her jump of 5?2??.
The Wildcats also had competitors in the men?s and women?s weight throw. Junior Genessa Guzman earned fifth place with a 54?4? throw while sophomore Ildiko Varga was close behind in seventh with a throw of 53?9?. On the men?s side, freshman Andy Fryman competed in the finals, placing sixth with a toss of 54?8??.
The Invitational concludes on Saturday with a full day of events, beginning at 10:30 a.m. for the schedule in PDF format
