The University of Kentucky swimming squads earned exhibition victories Wednesday over Indian River Community College in Ft. Pierce, Fla. With seven individual event victories, the UK men turned in a 102-85 win, while the UK women tallied a 102-89 decision by way of five individual-event wins.
Sophomore Jamie Saxe earned the first win for the UK women with a time of 10:46.94 in the 1000-yard freestyle event. Senior Amanda Bourgeois? time of 1:56.09 was good for first place in the 200-yard freestyle. Junior Jessica Siegele narrowly defeated Wildcat freshman Nikia Deveaux in the 50-yard freestyle, giving the Cats the top two finishers in the event. Sophomore Brennan Moore would capture the 200-yard individual medley and junior Caitlin Muldoon took the 500-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Daniel Farnham led the UK men with victories in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. Freshman Alejandro Bravo turned in a quality showing in the 100-yard backstroke, winning the event with a time of 52.88. Sophomore Steven Manley and juniors Tim Patrick, Daniel Cruz, and Jerram Chudleigh also went on to post individual-event victories. The UK men captured the 200-yard medley relay, as well.
The Cats (2-2, 0-2) return to the pool this Saturday against Southeastern Conference-rival South Carolina. The meet begins at 11 a.m. EST at UK?s Lancaster Aquatic Center.
