Freshman defensive lineman Ricky Abren has been cleared to resume participation with the Kentucky football team following the evaluation of an unspecified medical concern, Coach Rich Brooks announced Saturday.
“After extensive testing and consultation with medical specialists, Ricky has been cleared to participate with our team,” Brooks said. “Obviously, I?m very happy with getting Ricky back. He is extremely happy, as are the coaches and his teammates.”
Abren, a 6-3, 265-pound freshman from Hopkinsville, Ky., signed with Kentucky last February and began practicing with the Wildcats in August. However, the UK medical staff became aware of a medical concern in September and he was held out of practices and physical conditioning while the situation was being evaluated.
Abren has resumed strength and conditioning workouts with the team and he will be able to participate in spring practice. Abren and his family have no additional comment on this issue.
