Kentucky juniors Daniel Cruz and Jessica Siegele rewrote the Kentucky swimming record book Friday with sterling performances turned in at the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, N.C. The fallen records highlighted a successful day for the Cats during which they tallied five NCAA ?B? cut times.

Cruz, a Palm Coast, Fla. native, swam the 100-yard butterfly in 47.89, besting the previous UK record of 47.92 set by Shaun Zitani in February of 2001. The time earned an NCAA ?B? cut and also eclipsed the previous Nike Cup record time of 47.92 turned in by North Carolina?s Tucker Shade five seasons ago.

Siegele, a Wexford, Pa. native, swam the 100-yard backstroke in 55.59, breaking the UK record set by Jenny Eckert?s 55.85 in February of 1995. Siegele also earned an NCAA ?B? cut with her record-setting time.

Also victorious Friday was senior Brennan Moore, who took the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:20.23, earning an NCAA ?B? cut. Sophomores Laura Graham and Steven Manley earned NCAA ?B? cuts of their own with third and fourth place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle events, respectively.
