LEXINGTON – The UK women’s soccer team came from behind on three separate occasions to tie Southern Methodist, 3-3 Friday evening at the UK Soccer Complex. The Cats move to 6-8-4 while SMU goes to 15-3-1.
The Lady Mustangs wasted little time getting on the board in the first half. Adria Campbell headed in a well-placed corner kick from Amanda Jordan to give SMU a 1-0 lead. Kentucky’s Ashley Schillig answered in the 25th minute with a bending line drive from the left side of the box into the far right side of the net to knot the tally at one. SMU’s Olivia O’Rear chipped in a 12-yarder over an approaching Anne Ogundele to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead they would take into the half.
In the 54th minute, Kentucky’s Kristin Moyer headed in a loose ball from four yards out to tie tally once again. As if on cue, the Lady Mustangs once again took the lead, this time via a 66th-minute header. In the 80th minute, UK’s Jamie Hutchison sent a winding 16-yard rebound off of a corner kick just past an outstretched Amanda Clark to tie it up at three and send the match to overtime.
Three minutes into the first overtime, Kentucky’s Alli Haeussler flicked a sliding shot from eight yards out that dribbled just wide of the left post, comprising the Cats’ only best offensive opportunity in both overtimes.
Upon the conclusion of regular-season play, the Cats will not turn their attention to next week’s SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala. Kentucky will play next Thursday, Nov. 6 against an undetermined opponent.
