The University of Kentucky swimming program plays host to the Kentucky Relay Invitational Tuesday evening at the Lancaster Aquatic Center on the UK campus. The meet is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start time.
Kentucky welcomes Centre, Cumberland (Ky.) and Transvlvania to campus for the second installment of the Kentucky Relay Meet. A year ago, the Kentucky men and women each defeated Western Kentucky and Transylvania to capture the first Kentucky Relay Meet.
The Cats are coming off of a tough outing Friday evening in the season opener against Tennessee. The UK women fell 139-94 while the UK men suffered a 148-77 defeat. Junior Daniel Cruz led the UK men with victories in the 200-yard butterfly and freestyle events while sophomore Laura Graham claimed a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke and sophomore Jessica Thompson and freshman Joey Brown took first and second, respectively, in the three-meter diving event for the UK women.
Kentucky Coach Gary Conelly will use tomorrow’s event as a chance to get a better feel for his squad
“We want to see some people race and get a better read on some of our student-athletes who didn’t swim against Tennessee,” Conelly said. “With our Kentucky schools coming in, it allows us to build a sense of community among swim teams in the state.”
