Kentucky junior Aibika Kalsarieva tallied yet another impressive victory Saturday at the Omni Hotels/ITA Southeast Regional in Winston Salem, N.C. The unseeded Kalsarieva eliminated the tournament’s top-seeded player, No. 31 Aniela Mojzis of North Carolina, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 after defeating Duke’s Kristin Cargill, 6-0, 6-2. Kalsarieva advances to Sunday’s quarterfinal round against Clemson’s Maria Brito.

Freshman Lara Maurer scored an impressive victory of her own Saturday with a 6-2, 6-4 win over North Carolina’s Jenna Long. Maurer took fifth-seeded Maria Brito of Clemson to three sets, but fell, 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-0.

In other action, freshman Sarah Foster dropped a demanding three-set match to Tennessee’s Sabita Maharaj, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Christine Simpson took Carolina’s Mojzis to three sets in a morning match before falling, 6-0, 5-7, 6-0.

In doubles play, Foster and Kalsarieva teamed up for another victory, defeating Tennessee’s Maharaj and Ashley Robards, 8-2. However, in the following round, the Kentucky pair was no match for Clemson’s Brito and Julie Coon, losing 8-0.
