Oct. 25, 2003
Sunday afternoon, 16th-ranked Tennessee visits Kentucky in the Cats’ final conference match of the season. The Vols (11-4-1, 5-1-1) sit atop the SEC East, but a UK victory would go great lengths in erasing the deficit for the third-place Wildcats (6-7-3, 4-2-2). Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
Kentucky enters Sunday’s match in a bit of a lull. After a four-goal outburst at Alabama on Oct. 10, the Wildcats have registered only three goals in four matches since. The Cats’ win over the Tide also marks Kentucky’s last victory.
Tennessee got the best of Kentucky twice in 2002. The Vols claimed a 2-0 shutout victory during the 2002 regular season and a 1-0 overtime triumph in the SEC Tournament semifinals. The Vols earned a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2002 and feature an equally formidable squad in 2003. Senior Rhian Wilkinson recently returned to the Vols after a World Cup stint with the Canadian National Team. Tennessee also returns All-SEC defender Keeley Dowling. UT comes to Lexington upon a 2-2 tie at Vanderbilt on Friday evening.
