The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team (6-6-3, 4-1-2) plays host to Georgia (10-6, 3-3) Friday evening in a crucial conference match. As the first match in a UK soccer doubleheader, Kentucky and Georgia will kick off at 5 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex. The Kentucky-Buffalo men’s soccer match will follow at 7:30 p.m.

Friday’s match marks the first home match for Kentucky in three weekends. Kentucky compiled a 1-1-2 on its recent four-match road swing. The Cats’ last home spectacle was a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over Arkansas in which freshman Elisabeth Jones’ golden goal, the first goal of her career, ended the match.

Georgia comes to Lexington featuring one of the most prolific-scoring strikers in the nation in senior Jessica Winton, a 34-point scorer on the season, to date. The UCLA-transfer is 15th in the NCAA in points per game with 2.19 and 12th in goals per game with 0.94. Winton is tied for first in points per game in conference matches at 1.83.

Kentucky counters with two-time All-SEC selection Elizabeth Ramsey. The senior from Hilliard, Ohio claimed UK’s all-time career assists mark earlier in the season and is poised to earn a third all-conference nod.

Kentucky Coach Warren Lipka owns a 4-4-1 lifetime record against the Bulldogs. UGA got the best of Kentucky last season in Athens as the Dogs ran away with an easy 5-1 victory. A win Friday would keep the Cats in the thick of things for the SEC Eastern division and overall conference championships. With Sunday’s loss at South Carolina, Kentucky slipped to third place in the division behind Tennessee and Florida, though by a narrow margin.

Friday evening marks “Greek Night” at the UK Soccer Complex. The “Greek Chili Cook Off” will be held upon conclusion of the Georgia-Kentucky match. The fraternity or sorority that prepares the best batch of chili will win a prize, as will the Greek organization with the most members in attendance. Fans who bring a ticket stub from last Saturday’s Ohio-Kentucky football game can enter to win a Kentucky Football collectible item.
