GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kentucky (7-3-1) will take on No. 3 North Carolina (9-1-2) in its second match of the adidas/Spartan Classic in Greensboro, N.C., Sunday at 1 p.m. The Wildcats are riding a three-game win streak, including a 3-1 victory over tournament host UNC Greensboro on Friday.
North Carolina enters the match fresh off a 5-0 win over Mercer. The Tar Heels have posted seven shutouts on the season and have outscored their opponents 22-6.
Kentucky is led by junior Jamal Shteiwi who has 14 points on the season, including three goals and eight assists. Freshman Riley O’Neill, a Campbell River, British Columbia native, has scored four goals in UK’s last three games and ranks second on the team with 10 points on the season.
The Wildcats are currently ranked ninth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Great Lakes regional poll. Kentucky has out shot its opponents 154-100 on the season and were ranked 26th in the nation with a team goals against average of 0.768 before Friday’s match against UNC Greensboro.
