SEATTLE, Wash. – Sophomore Alejandro Salazar scored from six yards out in overtime to lift the University of Portland (5-5-0) over the University of Kentucky (4-3-1), 2-1.

Portland scored the first goal of the match just before halftime when Christopher Sanders found the back of the net off a Pilot penalty kick. Before Sanders’ goal, the Wildcats dominated possession in the first half.

Senior back Chris Austin netted the equalizer for the Cats in the 57th minute of play. The senior from Marietta, Ga. struck the top right-hand corner of the goal for his first score of the season and second goal of his career.

Kentucky and Portland remained tied, 1-1, for the remainder of regulation. The Pilots threatened to score with six seconds on the clock when junior Paul Robinson fired a shot at Kentucky goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum from 30 yards out. The Overland Park, Kansas, native made a leaping save and tipped the ball over the crossbar to send the game into overtime.

The Pilots attempted the only shot in the extra period when Salazar received a pass from Patrick Mooney and Sean Babcock to seal the game for Portland, 2-1.

UK returns to action Friday, Oct. 3 when it faces Appalachian State at the UK Soccer Complex at 7:30 p.m.
