The five members of the Kentucky men’s tennis team competing in this weekend’s Charles Fluitt Invitational at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex were all victorious on the first day of the tournament. Freshman Matt Allinder tallied two straight-set wins in the B Flight while junior Evan Austin, sophomore Alex Hume and freshmen Nathaniel Emge and Tigran Martirosyan advanced to the third round of the A Flight after receiving byes in the first round and getting wins in the second round.

Allinder started things off for UK, scoring a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Wright State’s Scott Hayden. He then backed that performance up with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Adam Storti from Morehead State in the second round of the B Flight.

Hume was next to tally a victory, a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win over Bellarmine’s Jacob Kirts. A win in tomorrow’s third round could pit him against teammate Martirosyan, who will face Illinois’ Ryler DeHeart Saturday morning. Martirosyan defeated Peter Bong from Southern Illinois, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round.

Austin and Emge scored wins in the lower half of the A Flight draw. Austin took care of Evansville’s Derek Boland, 6-4, 6-2, while Emge cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 victory over SIU’s Alexandru Nomicos.

All four A Flight Wildcats will play Saturday morning, while Allinder’s next match will be in the afternoon.
