Seattle, Wash. – Kentucky (4-1-1) puts its undefeated road record on the line in Seattle, Wash. at the Husky Classic. The Cats face the undefeated No. 22Washington Huskies (4-0-1) on Fri., Sept. 26 and the Portland Pilots (3-5-0) on Sun., Sept. 28 at Husky Soccer Field.
UK will play in the Husky Classic for the first time in school history. Other teams include Washington, Portland and No. 11 South Carolina.
Last Week: The Cats had an up-and-down week, finishing with a 1-1-1 record. On Tuesday, Kentucky faced in-state rival Louisville in an intense match that went into double overtime tied 1-1. Junior midfielder Jamal Shteiwi scored the game-winner in the 103rd minute to help UK improve to 4-0 on the season.
On Friday, Kentucky hosted the UK Invitational and played its first match of the showcase against Central Florida. The Cats and Golden Knights played a 1-1 tie. Sophomore transfer Nick Aguilar scored his first career goal at Kentucky off an assist from Shteiwi.
UK experienced its first loss of the season Sunday against Butler in the final match of the UK Invitational. Kentucky’s 1-0 decision against the Bulldogs marked the first time in the 2003 season the Wildcats were unable to score a goal.
Tournament Opponents: Washington broke into the NSCAA/adidas poll for the first time this season with a No. 22 ranking. UW is unbeaten in five matches and is the only remaining undefeated team in the Pac-10. This past weekend, the Huskies won their second tournament title of the season, winning the Marquette Invitational crown with victories over Michigan (3-2) and Marquette (2-1).
Portland returns seven starters and 18 letterwinners from 2002 and have started with a 3-5-0 record this season. The Pilots fell to Cal State Fullerton and No. 2 UCLA last weekend.
