FT. WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team begins exhibition play Friday when they take on Ohio State at the IPFW/adidas Soccer Showcase. Match time is set for 6 p.m. CT at the Hefner Soccer Fields. This weekend marks the Wildcats’ second trip to the Soccer Showcase in as many seasons. A year ago, UK dropped a pair of matches against Purdue and Notre Dame.

All six season-long starters return from the 2002 Kentucky team that recorded an 11-9-0 record and the program’s sixth NCAA Tournament berth. Senior forward Elizabeth Ramsey will aim for her third career All-SEC honor this season after being named to the all-conference second team in 2000 and the first team last season. Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America selection Liz Butler returns at goaltender along with defender Jen Wilkinson and midfielders Danielle Slupski, Amber Wilson and Erin Witchey.

The Cats will wrap up their weekend Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against Cincinnati before kicking off the 2003 regular season on Friday, Aug. 29 against Davidson at the UK Soccer Complex.

Kentucky-Auburn Match Slated for SEC-TV Telecast

The Kentucky-Auburn match scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12 in Auburn, Ala. has been selected for a live television broadcast on SEC-TV, via Fox Sports Net South. Game time has been moved from 1 p.m. ET to 3:30 p.m. ET. The Cats and Tigers last met in 2001, when Kentucky cruised to a 3-1 victory in Lexington.

Cats Tabbed Sixth in Great Lakes Region

Soccerbuzz.com released its national and regional rankings Thursday, and the Cats were placed sixth in the Great Lakes region. Kentucky finished tenth in the final 2002 Great Lakes Region rankings. UK’s Sunday opponent, Cincinnati, landed the eighth position in the Great Lakes rankings.
