Oakmont, Pa. – Kentucky junior John Holmes shot a 2-under-par 68 at the Pittsburgh Field Club on Tuesday to finish with a 2-under 138 two-day total at the U.S. Amateur Championship. The Campbellsville, Ky., native earned medalist honors and qualified for the field of 64 that will begin match play today.

Holmes, who won the Kentucky Open earlier this month, continues to improve with each tournament against some of the nation’s best amateur competition.

“I feel like I’ve got a little to prove,” Holmes said. “I want to get my name out there a little more. I found I’m not that far away from playing with those guys. I’m getting closer to my dream to play on the PGA Tour.”

Another Wildcat golfer, sophomore Matt Kohn, also qualified for match play competition after shooting a 1-over-par 71 at the Pittsburgh Field Club Tuesday. Kohn finished with a 146 two-day total.

ESPN will provide coverage of the first three rounds of match play beginning with a preview at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20.
