Hall Featured in Sports Illustrated: Kentucky offensive tackle Antonio Hall is featured in the August 11 edition of Sports Illustrated that hits the newsstands today (Aug. 6). Hall is one of five offensive linemen profiled in a story titled, “The Smartest Players in Football.”

“They may look like big, slow brutes to the casual fan, but offensive linemen are proving, on and off the field, that they possess uncommon intellect,” states writer John Ed Bradley.

Lorenzen on O’Brien Watch List: Senior quarterback Jared Lorenzen, a two-time semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, has been named to the award’s preseason watch list for the 2003 season.

Lorenzen matured greatly as a field general in 2002, leading the Wildcats to a 7-5 record, only the seventh time since 1954 that UK has won seven or more games. He completed 183 of 327 passes for 2,267 yards. Most impressive was his ratio of 24 touchdown passes against only five interceptions. He attempted 152 consecutive passes without an interception, a school record and the eighth-longest streak in SEC history. Kentucky generated 32.1 points per game, ranking second in the league in scoring.

Lorenzen was a semifinalist for the O’Brien Award in 2000 and 2002. Other Wildcats on this year’s preseason watch lists include center Nick Seitze for the Dave Rimington Trophy and tackle Antonio Hall for the Outland Trophy and Rotary Lombardi Award for linemen.

Ticket Update: Here is the updated information on 2003 Kentucky football tickets.

Almost all of the single-game tickets for Louisville have been sold. Only scattered single tickets ($40 each) are available for that game.

Single-game tickets are available for the other six home games and are priced at $29 and $22.

Upper-deck sideline season tickets remain available at a cost of $214.

End-zone season tickets, under the auspices of the K Fund, are available. These are bench-back seats located underneath the suites. The tickets are $172 each and also require a scholarship donation to the K Fund.

“Split-Squad” Practice Format the First Five Days: During the first five days, when only one practice is allowed, the team will practice in a split-squad format. Players will be available for interviews after their groups are completed. Coaches will be available after Group II comes off the field. See the schedule below for times.

Yeast Signs with Hamilton of the CFL: The Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League signed former Wildcat wide receiver and kick returner Craig Yeast on Tuesday.

Yeast is the leading receiver in Southeastern Conference history with 208 receptions for 2,899 yards and 28 touchdowns during his 1995-1998 college career. He played with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1999-2000 and the New York Jets in 2001. Most recently, he played arena football with the Lexington Horsemen.

According to the published news release, Yeast joins a Hamilton club that is desperate for offensive help. The 0-7 Ticats have scored a league-low 100 points this season.
