The University of Kentucky softball team added another signee to its 2004 freshman class with the addition of Gretchen Prugh, Coach Beth Pruitt announced today. Prugh was a leader on the mound and behind the plate, hitting as high as .402 her junior year while posting an 18-1 record on the hill for the Rebels. Prugh increased her pitching duties during her senior season, earning 27 of the Rebels’ 38 wins with an incredible 0.37 ERA. She notched 444 strikeouts in her last two seasons, including fanning an impressive 24 batters in 11 innings of work in the state tournament.
Prugh also lettered two years for the Rebels basketball team, was a member of the National Honor Society, a Tennessee Valley Scholar, and was honored with the President’s Excellence in Education Award. Prugh comes from an athletic family, as her father Dave played football at Indiana from 1972-75, while brother Chuck was a member of the Tennessee football team from 1999-2003.
