LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track and field team will travel to Sacramento, Calif., this week, June 11-14, for the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Thirteen Wildcats will compete in the competition, including seven women and six men.
Leading off Kentucky’s competitors are Molly Lonergan and Ildiko Varga in the women’s discus. The two will compete on Wednesday, June 11 at 1 p.m. ET in the qualifying round. The largest part of the Wildcat contingent will compete in the 800-meter preliminaries Wednesday morning. Among the group are Beth Heimann, Brooke Patterson, Roseline Addo, Chad Johnson, Jean Balan and Paul Ciurlys.
Olubusola Adeagbo will run the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles Wednesday night, while Thomas Morgan competes in the first round of the men’s 5,000 meters that night.
Thursday night will see senior Simidele Adeagbo compete in the qualifying round of the women’s triple jump, while the 800-meter runners will continue on in the semifinals earlier in the day. David Freeman and Hunter Spencer will race in the 1500-meter prelims on Thursday night as well.
The rest of the weekend will include semifinal and final rounds of the first two day’s events. After Kentucky concludes competition at the national meet, Freeman, Balan, Spencer and Heimann will remain in California for the USA Track and Field Championships in Palo Alto, Calif., June 19-22. Freeman, Balan and Heimann will compete in the 800 meters, while Spencer will run the 1,500-meter race.
