COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Kentucky track and field team opened competition in the 2003 NCAA Midwest Outdoor Track and Field Regional in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday, May 30. Senior Simidele Adeagbo took 10th place in the women’s long jump. She did so with a leap of 19-11.00
While the long jump was the only final the Cats competed in Friday, UK had several impressive showings in preliminary events. Beth Heimann advanced to the 800-meter finals after taking sixth in the prelims with a time of 2:07.36. Her teammates Brooke Patterson and Roseline Addo took ninth and 13th place, respectively.
In the men’s 800 meters, Jean Balan advanced to the finals with a time of 1:53.37. Other top-10 performers in the event included Chad Johnson in seventh and James Doaty in 10th. Johnson also moves on to the finals.
Olubusola Adeagbo moved onto Saturday’s 400-meter hurdle finals with a third place finish in the prelims. She completed her heat in 58.98.
Action continues on Saturday, May 31 at Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University.
