How the Network Television Games are Selected: A question received frequently at the UK Athletics Department is, “How do you know which Kentucky games are going to be on live network TV?”
As a member of the Southeastern Conference, Kentucky participates in the league’s live TV contracts with CBS, ESPN, espn2, and Jefferson-Pilot Sports.
First, the networks select several games in advance of each season; for example, this year’s season opener against Louisville, which has been chosen by espn2. Then, the networks select the remainder of their games on a 12-day advance basis. For example, the games that will be televised on Sat. Sept. 27 are selected on Monday, Sept. 15 – that is, 12 days in advance of the game.
Big Blue Caravan Begins Monday: The Big Blue Caravan, which will be held in seven sites in Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee from May 12 through June 18, begins this week. On Monday, May 12, the Caravan begins from 9-11 a.m. with a visit to the Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville. Lunch will be at noon at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course. The golf event begins at 1 p.m. Following golf, there will be a dinner at the Louisville Zoo, catered by Brothers Grisanti.
On Tuesday, May 13, the Caravan will be travel to the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area. The day’s activities begin at the Rosendale Retirement Home from 9-11 a.m. The Caravan then moves to the Golf Center at Kings Island for lunch (noon), golf (1:30 p.m.), and dinner.

Foxworth, Perkins, Hooley Featured in American Football Monthly: Gary Foxworth and Kip Perkins, two members of Kentucky’s sports video crew, and former UK staffer Chris Hooley, are featured in the May issue of American Football Monthly magazine.
American Football Monthly is designed for the football coaching profession and the May issue specializes on changes in video technology. Foxworth, UK’s Coaching Video Coordinator, was one of the experts interviewed for a panel discussion on football video.
Hooley is the subject of another article. Chris – short for Christine – is the first female video director in Division I-A football. Currently the video director at Southern Mississippi, Hooley got her start in the business at UK in 1996. Hooley credits Kip Perkins, current UK Video Director, with helping her get that first job. Hooley went to the University of Houston as assistant video director in 1998, then got the lead job at Southern Miss in 2000.
American Football Monthly also can be accessed on the Internet at AmericanFootballMonthly.com.
