The University of Kentucky men’s golf team was unable to gain any ground in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Tournament on Saturday, shooting a 27-over par 307 to stay in ninth place for the tournament. Tennessee pulled even with day-one leader Georgia after shooting a second-round 288 at the par-70 Sea Side Golf Course. Both teams have a two-day total of 577, which is 17-over par. South Carolina made a charge in the second round, moving up from sixth to third place at 23 over with a 583. Auburn, with a 584, sits in fourth place at 24 over, while Alabama and Florida are tied for fifth with a 25-over 585.
For Kentucky, Mark Blakefield fired a second-round, 4-over par 74 to move into the top 25 at 9-over par for the tournament with a 149. Brandon Waldrop followed up his first-round 72 with a 9-over par 79 to fall from 11th to 33rd place. John Holmes sits in a tie for 47th at 15 over after shooting a second-day 76, while Ryan Coyne, with an 18-over 158, is in 52nd and Matt Kohn , at 19 over, is in 54th place.
Georgia’s Kevin Kisner put some distance between him and Florida’s Brett Stegmaier, firing a 1-under par 69 to hold the individual lead with a 4-under 136. Stegmaier, who was tied with Kisner after the first round, shot a 2-over 72 to fall to one under with a 139. Arkansas’s Andrew Dahl, Georgia’s David Denham and Tennessee’s Andrew Platt are each tied for third place with a one-over 141.
The final round of the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday and the awards ceremony will take place as soon as the last team is off the course.
