The University of Kentucky softball team (12-38, 1-25) will look to end its SEC drought when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the Lady ‘Backs (23-32, 7-20) in the final conference series of the season. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at noon CT while Sunday’s finale is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. CT and will be shown live on Fox Sports Net. Kentucky has lost its last 22 conference games.

The Cats are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Louisville on Wednesday, April 23 at Ulmer Stadium. Junior Crystalie Wolfe and freshman Amy Kendall each pitched four-hit shutouts for the wins. Lyndsey Angus enters the series carrying a career-high tying nine-game hitting streak. In those games, she has hit .483 (14-29) with seven runs scored, three doubles, a triple and a game-winning three-run home run against Indiana, April 16.

The Lady ‘Backs are coming off a mid-week series with 11th-ranked LSU where they lost two by the mercy rule in five innings but won the third, 6-5. They are led offensively by senior first baseman Kim Eiben who comes in sporting a .331 average. She leads the team with 50 hits and 13 doubles. In the pitcher’s circle, junior Heather Schlichtman and sophomore Valanna Lyons have done most of the work. Schlichtman is 12-17 with a 2.72 ERA while Lyons enters the weekend with a 8-12 mark and a 3.57 ERA.

Arkansas is coached by Carie Dever-Boaz who has been at the helm of Lady ‘Back softball since the program’s inception in 1997. She has amassed a 225-230-1 record in her seven seasons.

Arkansas holds a 9-6 series advantage over the Cats. Last season in Lexington, the Lady ‘Backs took two of three from Kentucky.
