The University of Kentucky softball team (9-34) will travel to Bloomington, Ind., on Wednesday for a doubleheader with Big Ten foe Indiana. The first game of the twinbill is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT at the IU Softball Field.
Although the Hoosiers (14-22) enter the match up with Kentucky with an eight-game losing streak, IU has lost seven of those by a total of 11 runs. Under first-year coach Sara Hayes, they have already surpassed their win total from a year ago.
The Hoosiers are led offensively by senior catcher Stormy Hanson who is sporting a .389 batting average and leads the team in nearly every offensive category. In the pitcher’s circle, junior Heather Stillians anchors the pitching attack. Stillians comes in with a 7-11 record and a 2.46 ERA.
Kentucky owns a 4-1 series lead over the Hoosiers. Their last meeting was in 2001, when the Cats swept a doubleheader in Lexington.
Following the Indiana doubleheader, the Wildcats return home to play host to Auburn in an SEC series, April 18-19 at the UK Softball Complex. Saturday’s series finale will feature senior day festivities as Kentucky honors the careers and contributions of Nikki Jones, Lyndsey Angus and undergraduate assistant coach Bethany Wiegand.
