KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Kentucky track and field teams had an excellent day at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday, April 11. The men’s runners took five of the top 10 spots in the 800 meters, while Brooke Patterson took fifth place in the women’s 800 meters.
David Freeman finished second in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:48.41. Teammate Chad Johnson was close behind in fourth, while Paul Ciurlys was eighth. UK’s Hunter Spencer and Thomas Morgan tied for ninth place.
Beth Heimann took third in the women’s 1500 meters with a time of 4:27.77, while Thomas Morgan was fifth in the same event for the men with a time of 3:44.94, a season best for the Wildcats.
Ernest Simms continued his excellent year of sprint action with a sixth-place showing in the 100 meters.
In the field events, UK shined as well, with five top-10 finishes. Senior high jumper Matt Smothermon finished fifth on the day with a leap of 6-06.75. Janet Crawford was second in the same event for the women with a jump of 5-07.75. Kentucky recorded two top-10 finishes in the women’s discus, with Ildiko Varga placing seventh (163-05.00) and Molly Lonergan taking eighth (161-10.00).
