The Kentucky baseball team (13-18, 1-10 SEC) will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for a weekend series with the No. 23 Alabama Crimson Tide (21-10, 6-6 SEC), this weekend, Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13. The Cats are looking to build on the momentum of their first Southeastern Conference win, an 8-2 triumph over then-No.5 Mississippi State (24-5-1, 9-2 SEC) on Saturday, April 5, in Starkville, Miss. Kentucky also downed Wright State (8-18, 0-4 Horizon), 4-2, on Tuesday, April 8, in Lexington.
Alabama dropped two-of-three to No. 6 Auburn (27-7, 9-3 SEC) last weekend, losing 7-6 in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon. Most recently, the Tide defeated Northwestern State, 12-8, on Tuesday evening.
Kentucky trails Alabama, 24-43, in the all-time series between the two. The Crimson Tide has taken six in a row, and eight of the last nine, against the Cats. Included in that is a three-game sweep of the Cats last season in Lexington. UK dropped those games by scores of 11-9, 10-1 and 15-4. Alabama went on to post a 51-15 record a season ago, winning both the SEC Western Division and the Southeastern Conference tournament, earning a berth in the NCAA Regional.
The Cats will send senior Scott Wade (1-4, 6.30 ERA) to the mound on Friday evening. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. EST and can be heard on 96.1 FM on a delayed basis, or live at www.ukathletics.com. Saturday’s starter will be junior lefty Heath Castle (2-3, 2.98) who defeated Mississippi State last Saturday, going the distance and allowing two runs on seven hits. Seth Stanley (3-4, 4.35) will take the hill in the Sunday finale of the series. Saturday and Sunday are scheduled for 5 p.m. EST and 3 p.m. EST, respectively, and can be heard live on both 96.1 FM and www.ukathletics.com.
