The University of Kentucky men’s golf team heads to Huntington, W. Va., this weekend to participate in the 34th annual Marshall Invitational. The 54-hole tournament, being played at the par 72, 6,456-yard Guyan Golf and Country Club, will be played on Friday and Saturday. Thirty-six holes will be played on Friday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. ET.
“We’ve played well this spring,” Coach Brian Craig said. “We’ve been in a position to win several of the tournaments we’ve played. Hopefully this week we can come together and finish one of them off.”
The 16 teams participating in the tournament are: Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Ohio, Ohio State, Toledo and Xavier.
In last year’s invitational, UK finished fourth as a team with a three-day 899, while John Holmes took individual honors with a three-round 213. Toledo won team honors with a score of 877.
The Cats are coming off of a third-place finish at their own Johnny Owens Invitational in Lexington. Kentucky has finished in the top five of nine tournaments played this year, including a win at the Fall Beach Classic in November.
