FAYETTEVILLE, ARK – The University of Kentucky track and field team opened competition in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday, March 14. David Freeman took third in the mile preliminaries with a time of 4:06.26, while Hunter Spencer finished fifth, advancing both to Saturday’s final.
Kentucky senior Janet Crawford capped off a successful indoor season with a ninth-place finish in the high jump, jumping 5-10.75.
In 800 meters action, junior Beth Heimann took 11th in the preliminaries with a time of 2:09.21. In the men’s race, James Doaty finished 11th with a time of 1:49.77, while Paul Ciurlys and Chad Johnson were close behind in 12th and 14th, respectively.
The men’s distance medley relay team from Kentucky finished seventh overall, just missing All-America honors, with a time of 9:37.81.
Action resumes on Saturday, March 15 at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas. Senior Simidele Adeagbo will compete in the women’s triple jump, while Jeff Chakouian will try for his first national title in the men’s shot put.
