The University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished in 14th place at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational, with a three-round score of 943 (318-317-308) at the par 70 University Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla. Junior Eva Gessner led the Wildcats, shooting 18 over par for the tournament and finishing in a tie for 26th place.
Host Florida (293-294-286–873) led the 16-team field, just ahead of Southeastern Conference rival Tennessee (289-303-288–880). Tulane, Florida State and Michigan State rounded out the top five teams. Kristin Tamulis of Florida State medaled in the tournament, shooting five over par for the three rounds.
For the Wildcats, Gessner was joined by seniors Rachel Lester and Kelly Anders, sophomore Lauren George and freshman Ali Kicklighter. Lester shot a team-tying low round of 74 (+4) on Tuesday to end the tournament at 23 over par. George cut her score in half on the final day, shooting five over par to end the tournament at plus-26. Anders and Kicklighter shot 36-over and 41-over, respectively, to round out UK’s lineup.
Kentucky continues its season next week, traveling to Kaneohe, Hi., to participate in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii.
