The University of Kentucky softball team takes a break from its SEC schedule to play host to Morehead State in a mid-week doubleheader. The Wildcats (6-13, 0-3 SEC) look to end a six-game skid while the Eagles (2-6, 0-0 OVC) have won two of their last three. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. ET at the UK Softball Complex. Admission is free.
Kentucky is coming off a tough weekend series with SEC foe Florida where they dropped all three games. Senior Nikki Jones went 4-9 in the series and continues to lead the team in hits (22) and batting average (.361). She also is currently in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak.
For MSU, senior Natalee Owens is tops on the team with seven hits, five RBI’s and a .421 average. Sophomore pitcher Stephanie Hernandez leads the team with 11 strikeouts and a 4.41 ERA. The Eagles have given up double-digit runs in five of the eight games. Their two wins have been one-run contests, both in extra innings.
UK and MSU have met on 13 previous occasions, with the Wildcats winning 12. In last year’s twinbill in Morehead, Kentucky took both games, 4-3 and 10-2. The only win for the Eagles was the very first meeting, a 4-1 decision in 1997, the Wildcats’ first year with a softball program.
Live Gametracker stats will be available for both games on the schedule page.
