Tallahassee, Fla. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team finished tied for eighth place, out of 15 teams, at the Seminole Intercollegiate at the Par-72 Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla., on Tuesday, March 11.
The Cats finished tied with tournament host Florida State. Both schools posted a 12-over par 864 for their three-day total. Defending tournament champion North Carolina was able to repeat and win the tournament with a three-round score of 849 (-15).
UK’s highest finisher was freshman Matthew Kohn who found himself in 19th place after the first two rounds of the tournament. Kohn followed up his first-round 74 and second-round 71 by firing a 4-under par 68, a career low, to finish three under par for the championship with a 213 and tied for 8th. Sophomores John Holmes and Brandon Waldrop were each tied for 19th place after the first two rounds at 1-over par, but faltered in the third round. Holmes followed his second-round 70 with a four-over 76 to finish tied for 32nd with a 221 (+5) and Waldrop shot a 77 to finish tied for 40th with a three-day 222 (+6). Senior Ryan Coyne (224) and freshman Tyler Wilson (229) finished tied for 49th and 66th respectively.
The Cats have a short break before beginning play on Friday, March 14, at the Conrad Rehling Spring Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
