The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to Athens, Ga., on Friday, Feb. 28 to participate in the Bulldog Invitational at Georgia’s Gabrielson Natatorium.
The event offers several UK swimmers a last chance to qualify for a spot in this year’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship. For the men, senior Roger Watkins, junior Fernando Barros, sophomore Daniel Cruz and freshman Daniel Farnham will be fighting for a spot in the 200-medley relay. Barros, Cruz, Farnham and freshman Steven Manley will attempt to qualify in the 400-free relay. Individually, Barros will participate in the 100-freestyle and 100-butterfly, Farnham will compete in the 100 and 200-freestyle.
On the women’s side, freshmen Laura Graham and Shantelle Commander will each be going after a spot in the 100 and 200-breaststroke. Fellow freshman Brennan Moore will compete in the 400-IM and the 200-backstroke.
Should they qualify, the women will head to Auburn, Ala., on March 20, while the men go to Austin, Texas, on March 27. Friday’s meet begins at 6 p.m. ET with time finals.
