Feb. 13, 2003
The University of Kentucky gymnastics team will play host to defending Southeastern Conference champion Georgia on Friday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. ET, in Memorial Coliseum. The GymKats are looking to build on their vault performances of the past two weekends, which have moved them into second place in the NCAA Central Region on that apparatus.
The Wildcats (4-6) tied their school record on vault two weeks ago, scoring 49.325 points against Brigham Young. Last weekend’s 49.100 was good enough to keep the GymKats among the nation’s elite. The Cats, however, could not hold their momentum, and fell to league-rival Arkansas, Illinois-Chicago and Texas Woman’s University. Sophomore Michelle Gales was UK’s only event champion, posting a score of 9.850.
Georgia (10-1) comes into Lexington as the fourth-ranked team in the country. The GymDogs are fresh off a 197.875-196.475 victory over SEC-rival Auburn. UGA placed first in the 2002 SEC Championship, but came in second at Nationals to Alabama.
Live scoring of the meet is available here.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Tickets are available at the Memorial Coliseum ticket office, by phone at 859-257-1818 or here.
