Gainesville, Fla. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team found itself in a tie for seventh place on Saturday after the first two rounds of the Gator Invitational at Florida’s University Golf Course in Gainesville.
Leading the way for the Cats is sophomore John Holmes who began the day with an opening-round 68(-2) and finished the second round with a one-over par 71, to stand in second place among the individual finishers. Holmes finished with a two-round total of 139 just two strokes behind Augusta State’s Oliver Wilson. Freshman Matt Kohn finished in a tie for 13th with a two-round 143. The Cats total-team score of 585 leaves them 14 strokes behind leader Augusta State. Tournament host Florida is in second, in the 15-team field, with a 577. Defending champion LSU is in sixth with a 582.
The third and final round of the tournament will be played on Sunday, Feb. 9.
