LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track and field program will play host to its final indoor home meet of the season with the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet, Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8.
Appalachian State, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), Mississippi State, Ohio State, Southwest Missouri State, Tennessee (men only) and Virginia Tech will join the Wildcats in competition at the Nutter Field House, located on the UK campus.
The meet is named in honor of former UK student-athlete Rod McCravy, who was died while sleeping in his dorm room as a 19-year-old sophomore in 1987. In his short UK career, McCravy set school records in the 4 x 400-meter relay and the sprint medley relay and held the freshman school record for the 400-meter hurdles. The Louisville, Ky., native was a two-time state champion for Trinity High School.
Kentucky returns to action after a week off. Both squads finished third at the SEC Challenge, Jan. 24-25, in Lexington. Last weekend, UK’s men’s distance medley relay team participated in the Adidas Boston Indoor Games, taking home fourth-place honors.
Action gets underway at 6 p.m. on Friday with the men’s pole vault and wraps up with the men’s distance medley relay at 7:45 p.m. The meet resumes with the men’s high jump at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and closes at 5:05 p.m. with the Men’s 4 x 400 relay.
