Murray, Ky. – The Kentucky Rifle Cats took third place overall Sunday in the three-day Roger Withrow Invitational on the campus of Murray State University. Kentucky finished fourth overall in the smallbore event followed by a second place finish in the air rifle event.
Junior Bradley Wheeldon led the Rifle Cats with a 1176 in smallbore and freshman Vicki Goss turned in a team-leading 393 in air rifle.
Kentucky Coach Harry Mullins saw a silver lining in the team’s third place finish.
“I was disappointed in our numbers, though I was encouraged by our day of work. We turned in some good solid performances, but we couldn’t get the numbers to click. It was a good opportunity to get our student-athletes accustomed to this range in preparation for the NCAA Sectionals in two weeks,” Mullins said.
The Rifle Cats return to competition next Saturday, February 1 against Rose Hulman in Lexington before returning to Murray State the following weekend for the NCAA Sectionals.
