The ninth-ranked University of Kentucky men’s tennis team went to 2-0 after defeating the Southeastern Louisiana Lions 5-1 in the second match of a double-header at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center. The Wildcats beat Morehead State earlier in the day, 6-0.

Hume put in another impressive performance, winning 6-2, 6-0 over Eric Subirats. Esmail and Morgan, playing at Nos. 2 and 5 respectively, posted 6-2, 6-4 victories over their opponents. On court three, Emery had some trouble with Southeastern’s Matt Tate, squeezing out the 7-6 first-set win. Emery dominated though in the second, 6-0, for the victory. Austin came away with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Haris Huremovie at No. 1.

The only loss of the day for the Cats came in the very last match. Datlow fell in a first-set tiebreaker to Josh Smith but bounced back, taking the second 6-3. The third set was played as a tiebreaker and Smith held on for the 10-8 win.

The next dual-match for the Cats will be in Minneapolis when Kentucky takes on Big Ten opponent Minnesota. Emery, Hume and Morgan will travel this weekend to compete in the Harvard Invitational.
