The University of Kentucky will open the 2003 indoor track & field season with the Kentucky Invitational, Jan. 17-18, at the Nutter Field House in Lexington, Ky. The meet begins with five events on Friday evening and continues all day Saturday.

Joining UK in competition will be Arkansas State, Auburn, Clemson (men only), Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Louisville (women only), Marshall, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky.

Kentucky is looking to build on a successful 2002 season and will look to a strong group of veterans for leadership this season. All-American Janet Crawford returns as the reigning SEC indoor and outdoor high jump champion. Other All-Americans returning include Jeff Chakouian, Simidele Adeagbo, Hunter Spencer, Chad Johnson, James Doaty, David Freeman and Thomas Morgan.

Competition gets underway with the men’s pole vault at 6 p.m. Friday’s events wrap up with the men’s 4 x 800-meter relay at 7:45 p.m. Action resumes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the men’s high jump and continues until 5:05 p.m. with the men’s 1,600-meter relay.
