Milwuakee, Wis. – Seniors Jill Buckley and Leigh Bradwell were defeated , 8-4, in the doubles final of the Milwuakee Tennis Classic on Saturday. The duo lost to the tandem of Racquel Kopps-Jones from California and Liina Suurvarik from Illinois State.

Buckley and Bradwell played a tough match, breaking serve on a 3-3 tie to take the lead, 4-3. Kopps-Jones and Suurvarik were too much for the Cats to handle afterward, as they would go on to score the next five points.

“This was a great tennis match,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “Sometimes the final score isn’t the story. Jill and Leigh easily played their best match of the tournament in the loss. If we get this high a level of tennis from our team on a consistent basis, we will win a lot more matches than we’ll lose.”

The Milwaukee Classic was the last tournament before the Cats begin dual-match play. Kentucky will travel to Huntington, W.Va., on Jan. 25, where they will play a double-header against Marshall and Virginia.
