Kentucky shot 62.7 percent from the field tonight, the Wildcats’ best shooting performance since making 68.9 percent of their shots against Indiana on Dec. 22, 2000.
Kentucky went ahead for good, 15-14, on a Jules Camara basket with 11:37 remaining in the first half. High Point stayed close, however, and got within 39-37 with 18 minutes remaining in the second half. At that point, UK went on an 18-2 run to put the game away.
For the first time this season, all five starters scored in double figures for the Wildcats. The last time five Wildcats scored in double figures was against Arkansas on Feb. 23, 2002.
Senior G-F Keith Bogans tallied a season-high 21 points. In the process, he moved past tonight’s bobble-head hero, Kyle Macy, for 18th place on the UK career scoring list. Bogans has 1,430 points as a Wildcat; Macy had 1,411 points.
Junior G Gerald Fitch posted career highs with 18 points and six assists.
Freshman G Brandon Stockton had season highs with six points (3-of-3 shooting) and three rebounds.
Freshmen Preston LeMaster and Ravi Moss saw their first action as Wildcats.
Kentucky returns to action Sat. Dec. 7 at North Carolina. The game will be televised by ESPN at 2 p.m. EST.
Junior forward Erik Daniels will be eligible to play in Saturday’s game after missing the first four games because of an NCAA-mandated suspension.
