Nov. 15, 2002

Kentucky women’s golf coach Stephanie Martin announced today the signing of three high school seniors, Emily Culbertson, Marissa Muir, and Alanna Silvertrust, who will join the Kentucky squad in the fall of 2003.

Culbertson, a Covington, Ky., native and Dixie Heights High School standout, won the most high school matches in the state last year and has the highest number of points awarded by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. She was named the 2002 Miss Kentucky Golf and was a two-time State Championship runner-up. Culbertson won the 2002 Kentucky Junior Amateur and was the top amateur at the 2002 Kentucky Open.

“Emily is one of the finest golfers to ever come out of the state of Kentucky,” Martin said. “She is a tremendous athlete and person, and will be a huge asset to our team. We are very excited to know she is going to be a Wildcat.”

Muir enjoyed a successful prep career at Canyon Del Oro High School in Tucson, Ariz. She was recently named the 2002 Southern Arizona Golfer of the Year and also won the most high school matches in southern Arizona. Muir also won the 2002 Arizona State Amateur Championship and is currently ranked 89th in the country.

“Marissa is an incredibly talented player who recently has made her mark on the junior golf scene,” Martin said. “She has proven to be a great player in 2002, but I fully expect her to be even more exceptional in the years to come. Everyone on the team was really happy to learn Marissa decided to join the Wildcat family.”

UK’s third signee, Alanna Silvertrust, is a native of Camarillo, California. A former ice hockey player and current southern California golf standout, Silvertrust lettered all four years at Adolfo Camarillo High School and consistently competed at the number one and two positions. She won the 2002 Santa Barbara city junior golf tournament and qualified for the 2002 Junior World Championships.

“The combination of Alanna’s fundamentals, character, attitude, and work ethic will make her a wonderful asset to next year’s team,” Martin said. “Alanna is a solid player, has a great swing, and is mentally tough. I look forward to watching Alanna mature into one of Kentucky’s elite student-athletes.”

Culbertson, Muir and Silvertrust are the first signees to commit for Kentucky women’s golf in the early signing period. The fall signing period ends on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
