KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 13 Tennessee in front of 1,178 spectators at the Tennessee Soccer Complex Sunday. It was the third time the Wildcats (7-6-0/2-3-0 Southeastern Conference) have been shutout this season as the Lady Vols (10-4-0/3-1-0 SEC) won their third-straight regular season match over UK.

The Cats and Lady Vols battled to a scoreless first period, but the offensive statistics were tilted in Tennessee’s direction after 45 minutes of play. UT outshot UK, 8-4, and attempted three corner kicks to UK’s one. Four different Wildcats took shots at the UT goal, while freshman goalkeeper Liz Butler’s four saves kept the Orange off the scoreboard. For the game, Bulter recorded a career-high nine saves.

Tennessee finally lit the scoreboard at 72:10 when Marie-Eve Nault sent a direct kick from 55 yards out into the box and Keeley Dowling’s header from a crowd in front of the UK goal slipped past Butler to the top-left corner. The Lady Vols finished the scoring when Sue Flamini fed Kim Patrick’s diving header from five yards out that found the back of the UK net at 86:35. For the game UK was outshot 21-7.

Kentucky owns the overall series with UT, 5-3-0, splitting both meetings with the Lady Volunteers in 2001. Kim Patrick scored in double-overtime to secure Tennessee’s 1-0 win in Lexington on Oct. 14, while the Wildcats returned the favor with a 4-2 win in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament on Nov. 8.

Kentucky will next be in action on Friday, Oct. 18 when it plays host to Ole Miss in an 8 p.m. ET match at the UK Soccer Complex. UK is a perfect 5-0-0 vs. the Rebels, including a 1-0-0 mark in Lexington.
