The Kentucky men’s soccer team will hit the road on Wed., Oct. 2, to face Louisville at 7 p.m. in Cardinal Stadium. The Wildcats will be looking to build on Sunday’s 4-0 victory over IUPUI, the team’s biggest win of the season.
This year, the Cats are off to a 5-3-0 start. They beat Maryland, ranked as high at fourth this year, in the first weekend of the season, with their three losses coming against No. 2 Virginia, No. 19 Creighton and undefeated Coastal Carolina (currently ranked 22nd).
The all-time series between UK and UL dates back to 1991, the year Kentucky’s program gained varsity status. The Wildcats are undefeated in four trips to Louisville and hold a 5-2-3 overall record against the Cardinals. But last season, Louisville handed the Cats a 1-0 overtime defeat in Lexington.
“Louisville is always a very difficult opponent for us,” Coach Ian Collins said. “They are very well-coached and play with great intensity and effort. They have good attacking players and will provide a very tough challenge for us.”
The Cardinals come into Wednesday’s meeting with a record of 2-6-1. They have been held scoreless in their last five matches, but did manage a 0-0 tie against No. 3 South Carolina two weeks ago. Louisville defeated IUPUI, the only common opponent with UK, early in the season, 3-2.
